Dinner Is Ready

Most every night in some homes something commonly happens. When the call is sent out that dinner is ready, most everyone is busy doing something else. They are doing homework, working on the computer watching TV, or outside playing. The call goes out, "Dinner's ready!" and the answer comes back "I'm coming." But even as those words are going out the person’s mouth they are doing one more thing that just must be finished at that very moment. Again the call goes out, "Dinner is ready!" "I'm coming" and yet the other activity continues. "Dinner's ready!!", "I'm coming". By the time we actually get to the table the dinner is cold and the person who prepared the meal is upset and frustrated. But sometimes we actually make it to the table before the call goes out. There is a table to set and food to bring out. Why are we sometimes willing to stop what we are doing and actually help out? It is because we are hungry! When we are really hungry we most times are not late for dinner. In fact we arrive early looking for something to eat. This is why Jesus says to invite the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind. They are hungry. They will appreciate the meal. They will savor every last bite. When Jesus calls the correct response is not "I'm coming," it is "Here I am." If you are searching for Jesus Christ, do not take too long. Really, if you are searching for Jesus, He is not difficult to find. It is not as if He is hiding, He is searching for you too. But if you are hesitating because you are afraid of giving up your things, afraid of commitment, afraid of looking bad in front of others, afraid of counting the cost, then you are saying to Jesus "I'm coming" without leaving your seat. Stop making excuses and come and join the feast! If you are hungry for Jesus, don't wait any longer. Come to the table and taste and see that the Lord is good. I would like to invite you today to come to Jesus Christ. Even if you are thinking, "I don't really know Him.", "I don't really understand everything yet", it is all right. If you are hungry then Jesus is inviting you to come and be filled. It is time to accept the Master’s invitation and say, "Here I am" and not "I'm coming."
